Painful Antennae

Sometimes I'll hear someone say that something "raised their antennae," and when I hear that it kinda upsets me, because I have real antennae, and sure enough, anything I hear something sketchy or suspicious, they come up. They're awkward, fleshy and raw. It hurts when they come up because I'm such a suspicious person, they're constantly slowly rising in the worst possible times at social gatherings. They usually go right back down because of the awkwardness and pain, but its too late then. The other person knows that I find their remarks suspicious or even a completely corrupt, lying load of crap.
